A PEÇA

“FOREST UNDER THE SEA” cross different love stories, connected with the legendary french actor, Patrick Dewaere.

Why Patrick Dewaere killed himself?

This is the main question that drove the playwright Christina Kyriazidi to plunge into the universe of the films and personal life of the actor, in order to risk an answer of a fictional nature.

The plot of the play revolves around Ella, a young aspiring writer and her informal meeting with the acclaimed writer Manu Singer, author of one and only book, the successful “Forest under the sea”. The time inside the apartment of Manu dilates in a way that it becomes impossible to say whether this stunning meeting between Ella and Manu lasts for one hour or for several weeks. The play soon enters the universe of “magic realism”. Intimacy between the two of them grows, like an elephant that suddenly crosses the apartment. In the measure that Ella reveals her real intentions,

the two of them discover they share a common past, through two other characters, Patrick and Anne, who also exist in the fictional book that Ella is writing with the help of Manu.

Why Patrick Dewaere killed himself? Is he really dead?

Using solos in accordion, greek lullabies and stylistic references of famous films of Patrick Dewaere, mainly of “Beau Père” (1981) and “Serie Noire” (1978), as well as reinventing aspects of his biography, the performance wanders between theatre and cinema, as an homage to the actor.

Eventually, it documentates the real passion of Christina Kyriazidi for Patrick Dewaere, though her monologues, the music of Patrick Dewaere in accordion and a play of mirroring between the fictional characters of the “FOREST UNDER THE SEA” and the real story of Patrick Dewaere.

Manu and Ella, offer their version of the death of Patrick Dewaere, filling with poetry the holes in the life of the actor, that shall never be revealed.

“FOREST UNDER THE SEA” is based on play of the same name by Christina Kyriazidi. The actor Leonel Hence, the director Paula Lice and the assistant director Julianna Molla also sign the dramaturgy of the performance, together with the dramaturge Aldri Anunciação. Finally, the performance counts also with the original soundtrack of Ronei Jorge and Andrea Martins, which mix with real songs of Dewaere, the scenography of Erick Saboya, under the reference of steampunk, the light design of Márcio Nonato, which accentuates the atmosphere of cinema noir, the videos of Nina La Croix and the costumes of Alexandre Guimarães. The executive production is made by the Giro Produções.
